I've got plans people!! And lots of them. I've been a bit out of sorts with my sewing for the last few months and I feel I've finally found my groove again. I'm excited about it once again!
I had today off again with Mr H, who is recovering from his adenoid/tonsil removal, and we spent some time in my cupboard. I cleared out a few things I don't wear. Most were things that didn't fit well and I avoided because of this. I also spent four hours ironing (while watching movies), so I got a good idea of what I had and what I needed in my Winter wardrobe. Basically, I need more basic separates. T-shirts, tops, pants/jeans and jackets were clearly lacking. I obviously love dresses and will always make dresses but I can't wear dresses all the time. Seriously, a dress on a cold, windy and wet Melbourne day at the park with the boys?? No thank you. I could also do with a few more work dresses. I keep gravitating towards a few that I really like and always get compliments wearing so I'll repeat those patterns.
I have grand plans but will just share my immediate plans.
First up is the
Anise Jacket by Colette Patterns. I'm a bit obsessed by jackets at the moment. I have this one all lined up, then a cropped black one (more on that later) and then I have the red
Lady Grey waiting for her time to shine! I also want to make a black wool jacket that's a bit dressier. I wear my black wool Minoru all the time but it is a little bit casual at times. I'm thinking
Vogue 8548 with the less dramatic neckline.
Back to the Anise, I cut this out today after doing my calico over the weekend. The inspiration for this jacket came from a trip to the zoo last winter with a friend and her kids. She had a lovely double breasted, cropped fuschia jacket on with skinny jeans. It stuck in my mind and when Colette Patterns released the Anise jacket I knew exactly what I wanted!
The main fabric is a wool blend boucle from Rathdowne Fabrics and the lining is a designer silk from the Remnant Warehouse. I bought the lining before the main fabric because I loved it so much...
More
Alexa T-Tops! I've been wanting a black & white stripe one for some time and when I spotted
Lisa's version, I knew
this fabric would be perfect. I just needed to collect a few more things in my virtual Tessuti shopping bag before buying. The crazy print is a remnant from Clegs that I have no idea why I bought but I'll make it into a short sleeved Alexa. It will be perfect with a bright cardigan!
Another
Vogue 1250 mainly for work but also casual. This fabric is so luscious! It is beautiful and soft. It will be perfect with black tights and
my Cordova for work or a black cardigan and boots for casual days.
I've been wanting to try this pattern for ages. I bought the book in Japan almost two years ago! I'm not sure if
the fabric suits my skin tone but I think I might be able to pull it off with a bit of red lipstick. It is an off-white to beige shade rather than white.
My jeans from last year are starting to wear and it's only a matter of time before I have a serious wardrobe malfunction. So I need some more that aren't skinnies. I bought this soft denim which has a bit of stretch at the Remnant Warehouse during our Sydney expedition. I haven't seen many versions of the
Juniper pants on the internet so we'll see how they go.
I also bought some of the
black wool boucle from Tessuti which is reduced at the moment. I'm obsessed with the idea of a little black Chanel-inspired jacket. I'm going to use
Vogue 7975 which is quite simple. I am having trouble finding the black braid for the edges. Does anyone know where I can get it? Both Tessuti and Clegs in Melbourne city didn't have any. Check out
this video on the making of a Chanel little black jacket.
So those are my immediate plans. I also have a swimsuit in there somewhere as we're heading to the States soon for a family holiday. How fabulous is this fabric?!
So what do you think? What are your plans? Any idea where I can get the Chanel style black braid?

Oh, that beach fabric is TO DIE FOR! And in regards to black braid, give Darn Cheap a call. They usually have a huge variety of trims - http://www.darncheapfabrics.com.au/a/Trims for some ideas. It's great to read about your sewing plans - there are some wonderful ones (and some wonderful fabrics).
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE that beach print. Can't wait to see the swimsuit you make out if it!
ReplyDeleteIs that a mini-Wallaby I see there?!
DeleteJust got that beach fabric for the bombshell... and it is the bomb! You will look great in it. I can't wait to see your Juniper and your stripey tee. I think the colour will suit you just fine :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your bombshell!! I thought about that but I'll use a red that I have in the stash I think. I'm thinking of a simple style suit to show off that amazing fabric. I can't stop looking at it!!
DeleteWhat fun fabric for your bathers. You've got lots planned. I looking forward to seeing your finished projects.
ReplyDeleteYou could try greenfields- even if it's not listed online they are really helpful and a phone call might do the trick.
ReplyDeleteYou might just find the trim on you States trip. Your fabric choices are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWow what grand plans! It always inspires me when I read about others' grand plans. For braid, have you tried l'uccello in the Nicholson Building? Lots of lovely things in there. Also there is a haberdashery stall in the Chapel Bazaar, right near the front counter. The stall is crammed and completely overwhelming when you first look at it, but when you stand there and just look, lots of treasures reveal themselves. And then of course Lincraft and Spotlight can surprise you (although I wouldn't be making a special trip, I'd only pop in if they were convenient).
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to viewing the makes.
What great plans! You even have me longing for winter, which is a bit crazy since we've been having such a wet, cool spring. I'll be interested to see how your Juniper pants turn out.
ReplyDeleteMy plans involve sewing some pants, something that is completely overwhelming to me because of fit issues. So I'm going to tackle the Minoru first, because it will be a challenge, but I think I can do it. Maybe that will give me enough confidence to tackle the pants!
Vogue 8548 is one of my favourite coat pattern!! Such a classic look. And I'm loving that swimsuit fabric. Certainly some fun to be had sewing in that lot! :)
ReplyDeleteHave you made V8548 Mel? I think it's so stylish.
DeleteLots of yummy things there!
ReplyDeleteI made Juniper the other day - in black, so I haven't blogged it because I'm yet to be around to take photos in daylight where you might actually see anything except swathes of black. I'd say I'm a firmly beginner intermediate sewer, so I was apprehensive about making pants. But they came together really nicely! I seem to be just the right shape for Colette patterns (save needing swayback and FBAs) so I was lucky and they fit pretty much out of the packet, but I have to say that I found it to be a great pattern with excellent instructions. I'm planning a couple more, since I made it in linen and it's not very seasonal for right now.
I'll be interested to see how yours turn out!
Good to hear - I've had Juniper for a while but scared of making it. I will soon!
DeleteTaking photos of black clothes is really tricky!
DeleteI love your plans! Especially the Anise lining and swimsuit fabric.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about making your own trim out of the fabric, ie fraying it?? I did this when I had no luck finding trim for mine. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood idea! I'll look in to that. I was thinking more of a braid but fraying might be a good option. Thanks
DeleteHave bought some beautiful "chanel style" trim for my daughter's Chanel Style Jacket from Jimmy's Buttons (Fitzroy). Again, it's that sort of store, when you first walk in, you can get a bit overwhelmed but worth the visit. Good Luck. Ps: Great fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Evelyne! I've never heard of that store. I'll have to go suss it out soon.
DeleteEvery time I see that b&w fabric you got in Sydney I want to steal it....
