Snap: Weekend

I have had the most fabulous weekend. My mum came down for a visit. We explored the city, visited the Big Design Market and went to Bendigo to see the Modern Love exhibition. It was lovely to get out there and explore this fabulous city and region.

The Modern Love exhibition was wonderful. I really enjoyed studying the clothes and reading the history of the designers. It is not huge but well worth the trip to Bendigo. My favourite items were the Dior red dress and the Chanel yellow sequin jacket. I was also very impressed by the dress made out of several silk scarves. Lunch at Masons of Bendigo was delicious.

My mum wore a lovely dress to Bendigo that she made from a piece of Mood Fabrics cotton sateen. I bought one metre when we were in LA thinking that it would be fabulous for a pencil skirt. My mum spotted it on her last visit and was quite fond of it. So I gave it to her. It really suits her and is totally her style. As she's quite a lot shorter than me, she managed to squeeze a sheath dress out of it. I think she looks lovely. 

[Edit: Mum tells me the pattern is McCalls 5818. Looks likes a good one!]

Back to reality and another work week. One week until Sewjourn!

Explore: Monet's Garden at the NGV

On Sunday, Rachel and I escaped the domestic madness and went to the NGV to see Monet's Garden which is showing as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces. It was lovely. I've always liked a bit of Monet. It was such a beautiful day in Melbourne, so it was good to be out and about. Albeit for such a short time. At the end of the exhibition they have this funny picture wall where you can take your photo in front of "Monet's Giverny home". It was a bit of fun.

We also had coffee and scones with jam and cream at The Tea Room. It was delicious!

Explore: ACMI Hollywood Costume Exhibition

Last week Mr H and I got a bit bored at home and decided to catch the train in to the city. Just for fun. I wanted to see the Hollywood Costume exhibition at ACMI and it was fabulous! I wish I could have spent hours looking at the amazing costumes but my little explorer wasn't that keen on Dorothy's dress. My favourite exhibit was the before and after costumes of Cruella de Vil. Amazing how the same outfit can be transformed into completely different costumes with some mean shoulder pads and a hell of a lot of sequins. I was also very surprised at how bright the green was in the green 'curtain' dress from Gone with the Wind. The exhibition is definitely worth a visit!

We also stopped for a crepe at La Petite Creperie on Swanston Street. The salted caramel crepe is delicious!

Explore: The Collingwood Children's Farm

 

This morning we went to The Collingwood Children's Farm for a bit of fun. It was such a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the forecast was for high 20's. Tropical! So there was no way we were staying at home, watching TV, playing Lego or sewing.

We walked and chatted about animals.

Mr N almost got enough courage to milk a cow (I say almost!). Baby steps, baby steps...

He did agree to grooming the cow. Look at that cow! What a life?!

Explore: Napoleon at NGV

Mr Sew Brunswick is in Canada for the week, working and hiking and hopefully avoiding bears... To keep me company my mum came down from sunny Queensland to visit. I am sure she is looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet after a week in my household.

High on our list for the week was a visit to the National Gallery of Victoria to see the Napoleon: Revolution to Empire exhibition. I highly recommend this exhibition. It is truly amazing. The audio tour is exceptional. We took it in turns to see the exhibition and mind the boys. They don't appreciate the art but they do enjoy the NGV Kids Space.  

After my turn in the exhibition and a picnic in the NGV gardens, I wandered over to Federation Square and the other part of the NGV whilst the boys napped in the pram. It was a beautiful winters day. 

A lot of people don't like winter in Melbourne. I think it might be my favourite season. For many, many reasons. Boots, jackets, leggings, football, gallery visits, museum exhibitions and hot coffee on a cold winters morning. Just to name a few!

PS. Clegs is having a half price remnant sale!! I got a few sneaky bargains on the way past.
