Well Me-Made-May 2013 ended abruptly here at Sew Brunswick. I got sick. Really, really sick. So sick I had to call (or text) in my back ups as Mr Sew Brunswick was in Austria. Thankfully I have wonderful friends who came and looked after me and the boys until my mum, aka the flying babysitter, arrived from Queensland later that day. I wouldn't wish epiglottitis on my worst enemies.
Thankfully, I recovered quite quickly as the next week was my birthday and we went to Brisbane for Mr Sew Brunswick's 40th birthday dinner. I was able to quickly whip up a winter dress for the occasion. Although it was actually quite warm in Brisbane on the weekend, or warm for us Victorians, and I ended up sweating up a storm in this synthetic number. I also had to be careful not to get too close to the outdoor gas heaters at the Story Bridge Hotel...
Excuse the blurry photo, it was a quick photo before heading out the door. Unfortunately, it is the only one of the side gathering. The fabric really is too thick for this style and didn't want to gather evenly. It preferred to bunch in to big pleats instead. I knew it was too thick but I loved the print. I will make it again in lighter fabric which breathes. Possibly a merino wool knit...
I shortened the sleeves by 5cm and didn't line the dress as instructed. The neckline is finished with a black knit remnant from the stash. The pattern runs large and I went down a size. Next time I will do a sway back adjustment to remove some of that excess fabric and probably go down another size.
All in all, a great little dress that was super quick and relatively comfortable to wear. Next time I will most definitely choose a different fabric.
