Better late than never, right?! I made this Mission Maxi way back in December at Sewjourn and I'm only just getting around to posting it. The first lot of photos were horrible. Black is extremely difficult to photograph, particularly in bright sunlight.
This dress hasn't been the firm wardrobe favourite I was hoping it would be. I love the style and simplicity of it but don't wear it as much as I thought I would. Probably because it's been too hot. It was 37 degrees today and I did find all that fabric around my legs gets a bit hot. I find myself pulling the fabric up when I sit down. Probably not the best look. It will be perfect when the weather cools down a bit. I gravitate towards my striped maxi much more than this black Mission Maxi.
I made a size 18 but graded it out from the waist down. I really didn't want it to be tight across my hips and stomach, preferring it to skim over these areas. The length is as per the pattern which may be too long for shorter people. I'm 178cm and it touches my feet.
The fabric is my favourite jersey from Tessuti. I could buy it in every colour! The composition doesn't pill or go fluffy or dull and it handles copious amounts of washing really well.
Pattern: Jamie Christina Mission Maxi, view A, size 18
Fabric: Black Orbit jersey from Tessuti Melbourne
Alterations: 4cm sway back adjustment, graded out 1cm from waist down
I still want to use this pattern again but plan to shorten it to just below the knee. Altering the back straps will also make it much more wearable. I do love a jersey dress!
