Table: Burda 7077 dress

I'm slowly finding my sewing groove again but I keep getting distracted by this thing called life. I'm up to working 4 days again, Mr N started school this week, Mr Sew Brunswick is travelling and I've been consumed by picking toilets, basins, towel racks, lights, carpet and so on. Super excited about the renovation but not so excited about losing my sewing room.

This dress, Burda 7077, has been in the to-do pile for a long time. It feels good to finally be working on it. It just needs a zip and a hem. Jobs for this afternoon while the boys watch a movie or argue over Lego.

Table: Sewaholic Saltspring Dress in Jack & Charlie

 

I've been eyeing off this Liberty fabric since it was released. When Sewaholic Patterns announced the Saltspring Dress, it was a match made in heaven!! It is just waiting for a red bombshell to vacate the machine...

I checked the forecast for Salt Lake City and Western USA this morning and it is definitely summer dress weather!! Yippee!!

Table: Swimsuits & Summer Dresses

 

On this very cold and miserable weekend, I'm going against the season! I fished out this half finished swimsuit and hope to finish it off for our US road trip holiday. I'm using the Ohhh Lulu Ginger bodysuit pattern (converted to a bikini) and a remnant from the stash. The dress is a short version of McCalls 6559. I've been swooning over this fabric for years and finally snatched it up as a remnant a few weeks ago at Tessuti.

Table: Colette Patterns Anise Jacket

On my sewing table this weekend is the fuchsia Colette Patterns Anise Jacket. I have just finished all the bound buttonholes. This is my first bound buttonhole EVER!! I am a little bit excited. My husband doesn't share my excitement and looks at me as if I've lost the plot. Surely you all understand my excitement?!

Table: Vogue 1314

On my sewing table this long weekend is another two versions of Vogue 1314, which is proving to be a very popular make. I've only worn my floral version a few times but I got heaps of compliments every time. I'm making the print one sleeveless and the charcoal merino knit with 3/4 sleeves.

Table: Tessuti Comp, Cordova Jacket & Clover Muslin

There are lots of things on my sewing table this week. After the success of my Vogue 1027 in Liberty, I feel a bit recharged and enthusiastic about sewing. I couldn't go past the Tessuti Gridlock sewing competition, so I bought 4 metres with no plan. I think I've come up with a good plan now, so I cut the bodice out and am working on that. The Cordova jacket and materials have been sitting on my desk since December and now I can start since the weather is not so hot. Autumn is here! Lastly, Rachel & I are doing the pant fitting class at Tessuti tomorrow, so I cut out a muslin in a floral cotton sateen. Mr N said my pants were very pretty!!

Table: Simplicity 2444

I threw my sewing plan out the window and decided life was too full of plans. I wanted to sewing something summery and just for the fun of it. So I decided on Simplicity 2444 in one of the printed cottons from my Sydney trip.

Table: McCalls 6611 Drape Jacket

What's on my sewing table this week? McCalls 6611 drape jacket is still on my table. I am determined to get this jacket right and finished before moving on (or back) to my next project, The Moss Mini skirt. This jacket should be called the labour of love jacket. I almost threw it in the bin last night but Rachel convinced me not to.

My original alterations were disastrous! I lengthened the jacket by 10cm and left the peplum off. The jacket was very boxy and bunching over my hips. It also made me look very wide through the waist. Not flattering at all!

 

So I went back to the drawing board and cut out the peplum as well as removing 8cm of the extra length I'd added. The waist seam really needs to sit on my natural waist. I also reshaped and reduced the size of the drapes.

 

This is what it looks like tonight...

 



I am liking it soooooo much more with the addition of the peplum. The peplum really balances out the drape and defines the waist.

It is at the point of hemming the sleeves and lining. But I wonder about that extra fabric along the princess seam. Should I pinch out this fabric before finishing it or not worry about it?? I've already finished the sleeves so I don't want to mess with those. I find most patterns are a bit baggy at this upper chest area and I probably should have looked at this before now...

Any suggestions? Does it still look like a dud or am I being a bit harsh on it? It has just taken so much time and energy.

Table: McCalls 6611 Drape Jacket

I love seeing what other people are working on so I thought I'd start posting what's on my sewing table. I'm going to call it Table. Simple.

I'm working on McCalls 6611 which is a drape front jacket with a peplum. I cut out the pattern yesterday afternoon and altered it a fair bit. Today I'm going to draft the lining pattern pieces using Grainline's tutorial.

I'm really excited about this jacket! So much so, it might skip past these projects which have been waiting patiently...
